Updates! 1/24

We are moving a bit slower than planned, which always seems to be the case. Tonight, students who did not finish their Bill of Rights Foldables, must do so for HW -- Due Friday 1/25. We will have shorter classes tomorrow -- and Winter Carnival from 1:00- 2:30. Please have student bring warm clothes!

Next week: US Constitution Standard Assessment on Wednesday. Content involved is the 3 branches info from this last quiz plus Bill of Rights and Supreme Court Case info. All 8th graders must take this assessment. Please ask your kids about it beforehand. Students -- Come in for help beforehand if you need to~!

1st Week of Q3 - January 21-25

Assessments: Two items will be assessed formally this week. There is a quiz on Thursday Jan 24 -- 3 Branches of Government & Articles I-III of the Constitution.
Students will also hand in their Foldables personal Bill of Rights in which students create a small booklet of the Bill of Rights, inserting their own meanings/interpretations for each of the 10 Amendments. This will later be used to study for the US Constitution Standard on Wed. Jan 30th.

Monday: MLK Day Activities. Students connect Dr. King's life with the rights provided on paper in the US Constitution. Key terms - Civil Disobediance, Civil Rights, 14th Amendment, Segregation, Rosa Parks, Non-violence, Mahatma Ghandi.
HW - Read Brown vs. Board of Ed. Supreme Court Case. Answer 1-3.

Tuesday: HW Check. Discuss Brown v Board of Ed. -- What Amendment(s) are involved? Begin foldables Bill of Rights.
no HW. Finish last 12 minutes of film "Bill of Rights Repealed."

Wednesday: Quiz -- 3 Branches of Government, checks and balances, Articles I-III of Constitution. Students adopt an amendment and create a short skit in small groups. They must act to the class, demonstrating what life would be like without that amendment. Their goal is to get the class to guess what amendment they have chosen.

Thursday: Present skits. Finish Foldables in class.

Friday: Quarterly Recognition-- Winter Carnival. Please bring warm, winter clothing!
